Mrs. B. Bujinlkham, Hovd agent of the privately-owned Air Mongolia aviation company, and her office cashier Mrs. Z. Bulganchimeg, are reported to have threatened journalist G. Ganchimeg of the Hovdyn Medee (Hovd News) newspaper about her article in the newspaper titled Stop It: Airticketing Our Permanent Toothache in the issue dated January 1, 2006.
They demanded that Ganchimeg “…reveal the source of information or we will take you to court.” They also demanded that any future such articles be submitted to Air Mongolia before before publication.
The journalist said that she wrote her article after investigation revealed material about an airticket problem which had been a topic of discussion among local people for many years. It was claimed that the Ulaanbaatar-Hovd aimag ticket set price should be Tg76,500, but that the agent and her cashier charged between Tg5,000 and Tg10,000 more per ticket. The journalist refused to reveal her information source or show her material.

Globe has issued a media release on the incident, published in the local newspaper. Please send letters of complaint to the agent and cashier, with copies to legal implementation organizations and the Human Rights Commision.
Inform the Air Mongolia main office about this incident and write to the Ministry of Tourism and Infrastructure calling for them to intervene to resolve the problem.
Notify the MPs of the three western aimags.
