Globe International (GI) is deeply concerned about the attack on journalists and cameramen from Sky television station of Khuvsgul aimag. They were verbally attacked and beaten, some of them were seriously injured.

On the night of July 28, 2012 at 1.00 am when the voting for the Parliamentary election was being completed and the television crew were airing the preliminary results, B.Ganzorig, executive director of Khuvsgul news LLC, which is the investing company of Sky television, entered the premises of the TV station with some people. He has beaten and injured 4 journalists and 4 cameramen on the reason that TV crew has aired one-sided news and has not served the interests of the investor, who was running for the election.

GI condemns over the brutal action of Ganzorig and considers it a crime as it violates the constitutionally right to personal liberty and safety, breaches media freedom, professional rights of journalists, the public’s right to objective information and editorial independence.

After the incident all the crew left the station. They are waiting for medical conclusions of their injury. The local law enforcement agencies have instigated legal proceedings against the violators.

GI believes the law enforcement agencies of Khuvsgul aimag would truly investigate this serious case of violation and punish them in accordance with the law.
