
Globe International Center hosted an online discussion, "Can the Public Information Transparency Law guarantee citizens' right to know?" on January 21, 2022. The discussion was organized in the form of a discussion among journalists and citizens in connection with the “Law on Public Information Transparency” adopted by the Parliament on December 17, 2021, which will be effective from May 1, 2022. Organized with the support of the Open Society Forum and IFEX, the online forum brought together 40 participants from government and civil society organizations and journalists.
D.Enkhtsetseg, Governance Program Manager of the Open Society Forum, opened the online discussion and introduced its purpose and main issues. B.Purevsuren, lawyer at the Globe International Center, presented the keynote address on “Comparison of the Law on Public Information Transparency with the previous Law on Information Transparency and the Right to Information”. The main points of the report covered whether the newly adopted law's provisions are in line with international principles and norms, and the challenges that law enforcement may face in the future. He also expressed GIC's desire to participate in the working group to draft regulations related to the adoption of the law, and called on other civil society organizations to pay attention to this.
