										 Can the Public Information Transparency Law guarantee citizens' right to know?

				Globe International Center hosted an online discussion, "Can the Public Information Transparency Law guarantee citizens' right to know?" on January 21, 2022. The discussion was organized in the form of a discussion among journalists and citizens in connection with the “Law on Public Information Transparency” adopted by the Parliament on December 17, 2021, which will be effective from May 1, 2022. Organized with the support of the Open Society Forum and IFEX, the online forum brought together 40 participants from government and civil society organizations and journalists.

										 A webinar  ‘Can the Law on Public Information Transparency guarantee citizens' right to know?" to be organized

				In collaboration with Open Society Forum, Globe International Center is going to host a webinar titled “Can the Public Information Transparency Law Ensure Citizens' Right to Know?” on January 21, 2022 from 2 pm to 3:30 pm. B.Purevsuren, the lawyer at the GIC, will make a presentation on “Comparison of the Law on Public Information Transparency with the previous Law on Information Transparency and the Right to Information”. The General Intelligence Agency will also provide information on the new law. This webinar is supported by IFEX.

										 The MASAM II Project Team Will Work in Arkhangai, Khuvsgul and Bulgan Provinces

				The MASAM II project team of Globe International Center NGO will work in three target provinces, namely Arkhangai, Khuvsgul, and Bulgan, from January 10 to 21, 2022. The MASAM II project team plans to carry out three activities. First, the team will meet with representatives of the provinces’ local government and civil society organizations to make an official presentation of the project and exchange views on it. Second, training will be provided in four modules to build the capacity of governmental and civil society representatives. The four modules are aimed to increase the knowledge and skills of both sectors’ representatives to effectively implement social accountability tools in the budget process in order to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of public investment and primary health care.

										 Open letter to reject draft laws that pose a risk of shrinking civil society

				On November 24, 2021, the Minister of Justice and Home Affairs (MoJHA) submitted two draft laws to the Speaker of Parliament – the draft Law on Legal Status of Associations and Law on Legal Status of Foundations (hereinafter referred to as the draft laws on Associations and Foundations). However, while drafting the bills, the MoJHA did not comply with Mongolia’s Law on Legislation as well as the Government Action Plan, which require the participation and input of citizens and civil society.

										 Globe International Center stresses restrictions on the right to peaceful assembly affect individuals’ right to free expression

				Globe International Center responds to a court ruling which imposed a fine on individuals who organized a flash mob in protest against the restrictive pandemic regulations of the Mongolian government. Globe International Center urges lawmakers to immediately initiate a review of the laws and policies impacting the right to freedom of peaceful assembly in Mongolia. Globe International Center also urges authorities to be more circumspect in enforcing legislation that severely violates fundamental human rights, and not to misuse emergency measures against individuals who organize peaceful demonstrations to express their opinions during the pandemic.

										 An online discussion to commemorate IDEI 2021 held

				The Globe International Center (GIC) hosted an online discussion on "Ensuring the Security of Journalists to Protect Freedom of Expression" on November 2 to commemorate the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists (IDEI). Around 30 stakeholders representing media and government organizations participated in the online discussion. In the first part of the discussion, Gunjidmaa Gongor, Executive Director of Mongolian Media Council, highlighted that although Mongolian journalists are relatively safe, there are three common security concerns, which are psychological, physical and cyber.
